Abigale Lee
Mills (born September 21 1965) was an American dance instructor, choreographer
and reality television host. Abby Lee Dance Company is her creation, which was
a reality show that aired for eight seasons on Dance Moms. Miller admitted
guilt on June 27, 2016 to criminal bankruptcy fraud. Miller was sentenced for
one and two-and-a-half years in federal prison. She was released on the 27th of
March 2018. She was diagnosed with lymphoma in April of this year. It's a kind
of cancer that leaves her incapable of walking. She relies on a wheelchair for
mobility. Miller has been a dancer since childhood in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania,
an Pittsburgh suburb. She was studying under the direction of her mother at the
Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. Miller was 14 when she was given choreography and
coaching duties for one of her mother’s competition dance teams. Miller
eventually assumed control of the studio in 1995 and renamed it Reign Dance Productions.
Miller was certified by Dance Masters of America in 1986, and became an
associate member of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter 10 in February 2012.
But her membership was terminated by the DMA in February 2012 when the DMA
stated that Miller's reality-TV show Dance Moms was "a complete
misrepresentation of dance teachers and students and was detrimental to the
dance industry."
