Abi Clarke
In the old
days (i.e. In the early 2020s, comedians could have expected to play for years
in the UK before being invited on the TV panel and selling out arena tours.
Right now, it's not as simple. One art form that can be performed live in the
future is comedy, but there will soon be no arena shows. But one comedian from
Bristol is able to reach a huge global audience through the social media
lockdown. The pursuit of fame on the internet isn't something Abi Clarke wanted
to achieve. Abi Clarke is a young woman of 24 who lives in Henbury with her
parents made her first online video to "build an audience of like-minded
people who would enjoy my stand-up comedy." "I was performing a lot
of gigs in the depths of Devon to males who were in their 50s and weren't so
enthusiastic about my Love Island, Sims and Twilight references. So I went
online in the hope of finding young women who really related to me." Abi
has since appeared at Lakota Gardens, as locks have eased but continues to post
her videos on Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok (where she recently reached 500k
followers), finding ideas from sources as diverse as her job at an
establishment, a chat with a stranger or even the girl-group chat, and writing
everything down on her smartphone.
