Susan Sarandon Bio
It was after the 1968 Democratic convention, and there was a casting notice for a film that had several roles for young people who had disrupted the convention. Two recent graduates from Catholic University in Washington DC went to the audition in New York for Joe (1970). Chris Sarandon, an actor who had trained to be an actor, was rejected. Susan, his wife Susan was given a prominent part in the film as Susan Compton as the child of Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). In the film Dad Bill kills Susan's drug dealer lover and then becomes friends with Joe (Peter Boyle)who is an outspoken scumbag who works as an assembly line worker and who has a collection of guns.Five years later, Sarandon made the film in which fans of classic films have come to know her as Janet who becomes involved with transvestite Dr. Frank n Furter in The The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Over 15 years after beginning her career Sarandon has finally been actively campaigning to be cast in a memorable role, Annie in Bull Durham (1988), travelling at her own expense from Rome to Los Angeles. Sarandon said that "It was an amazing script... it dispelled a lot of myths and challenged America's definition of what success is". "I went to the studio together with Kevin Costner and shook hands with some of his sexy assistants, before returning to the plane. Tim Robbins (1988), her Bull Durham supporting actor, had already produced two sons by 1992 and made Sarandon in a position where she could leave her home and take on challenging roles. It was the result of four Academy Award nominations in 1990s, and best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995). Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980), was her first Academy Award nomination.
